The test module Engine test N42 checks all engine-related systems and components. The test runs automatically.
At the end of the test, all test results can be printed out in the form of a report.
The prerequisite for automatic testing of the primary ignition signals and the injector control signals is the use of the multi-channel adaptor (MKA) and the multi-function lead (MFK2). A special test checks the function of the adaptor and the MFK2.
At the beginning of the engine test, a read-out of the digital engine module (DME) fault memory is obtained. If recorded faults are found, they should first be eliminated using the relevant test modules.
Nevertheless, the engine test can be carried out even when there are faults recorded in the memory. In that case, however, components may be reported as ”Out of order”, depending on the nature of the fault, and some of the system tests may not be able to be carried out. Those tests will then be shown as ”Not performed”.
All the engine operation values are read out and compared with corresponding setpoint values. They are then evaluated with the criteria ”OK” and ”Not OK”.
The primary-side ignition signals for cylinders 1 to 4 are picked off at the adapter boxes of the DME control unit individually for each cylinder using the MKA, displayed on the Tester as an oscilloscope measurement and then automatically evaluated.
The activation signals for the fuel injectors of cylinders 1 to 4 are measured cylinder-specifically, displayed on the Tester and then automatically evaluated.
The variable camshaft timing control VANOS is tested. For this purpose, the camshafts are adjusted across the entire range of control. The DME analyses the control characteristics.
The secondary air system is checked and assessed with the corresponding system test.
The function of the Valvetronic variable valve gear is tested. The end positions reached and the adjustment times are used as evaluation variables.
Absolute compression testing is only then conducted if the irregular running measurement has furnished for at least one cylinder the result ”Not OK” and at the same time the ignition and injection signals are evaluated as ”OK”.
The results of the engine test can be printed out as a separate report at the end.
